Ocean Housing Ltd

Nicola Jones

Project Manager CRM & EDM for Ocean Housing Ltd

‘I’ve been with Ocean for almost 16 years and have facilitated the implementation of various initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of our headquarters in St Austell, including the 53KWh Photovoltaic array in 2011, the eighth largest rooftop installation in the UK at the time, and a range of recycling opportunities for office waste.

I’m always looking for new ways to improve our green credentials and welcome any new ideas.’

Jason Hobbins

Qualified Electrical Supervisor for Planned Property Services

I have been with Ocean for around 3 years. Up till around 6 months ago I worked on my tools, attending a large number of our properties to carry out electrical repairs and maintenance work. My role now is a 50/50 split between office, overseeing Planned Electrical Works and continuing on my tools.

I hope with my experience of knowing our housing stock and the issues that are raised by tenants and myself, we can help improve our overall energy rating, lower costs for our tenants and make our housing stock greener for the future.

Sam Harding

Development Officer for Ocean Housing Ltd

‘I joined Ocean in August 2014 as part of the development team working alongside Development Managers and Gilbert and Goode to deliver Oceans new build program of affordable homes.

On a day to day basis my role includes finding and working sites up ready for planning, assisting in the project management and attending site meetings to overcome any problems, dealing with members of the public and the after completion works including defects. Due to this connection to the new builds, I can liaise with architects and stake holders to ensure Green technology is installed where appropriate.

I also hold a degree in Environmental and Public Health which is very much centred around sustainability and protection of our natural resources so can use this and previous experience to drive implementation of new ideas.’

Sasha Forsyth

Website Coordinator for Ocean Housing Ltd.

Since July 2013, I have been working to make Ocean’s websites and online communications as clear, inspiring and accessible as possible.

Having worked at social enterprise and landfill minimiser RE:SOURCE, I picked up some green habits of my own ‘as the norm’. So I’m delighted to have joined the Green Team to help communicate clearly the aims of the team: to raise awareness of Ocean’s Eco activities and inspire greener habits at work and at home.

Ryan Clayton

Carpenter for Ocean Housing Ltd.

I’ve been with the company from the very beginning and prepare void properties for new tenants to move in.

Over the years, I have seen lots of change within the company but also with the materials that are available to us. As a team, we always keep an eye out for new, better or cost effective resources and I feel like I can represent the team of tradesmen and give them a voice, passing ideas on to management. Being on the cold face, you start thinking about fuel economy, minimising materials wastage and storage savings.

Gilbert & Goode Ltd

Mike Jeffs

Pre-Construction Manager for Gilbert & Goode Ltd

‘My role is to manage the pre-construction process for both Ocean’s and G&G’s up and coming projects. This incorporates the feasibility of potential sites for future development, appointment of consultants and management of the design process through to the construction phase.

My role makes me ideally placed to have an impact on incorporating new Green Technologies into our new housing stock and evaluating feasibility of offering additional ECO friendly features. Throughout my career I have been privileged to work on many projects both in the UK and abroad which have incorporated ECO technologies such as green roofs, rain water harvesting systems, ground and air source heat pumps,(including lake water cooling systems) as well as procuring renewable supply chain partners.’

Mick Coates

Site Manager for Gilbert & Goode Ltd

‘I am responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of; housing stock to Ocean Housing and Gilbert & Goode’s Open Market properties.

During the mid to late nineties I decided to study for a Higher Education Diploma in Environmental Studies because of my interest and concern about the way in which society is using the world’s limited resources.

I have been involved with several schemes where I have helped make a difference to mankind in being able to build sustainably so that we, in turn, consider the needs of future generations.

I am qualified to advise the scientific world of the social implications of their decisions (or non-decisions), but, more importantly, I have a good grounding for dealing with environmental issues from a social perspective.’
