The company employs 26 staff, 90 trade operatives and a small number of apprentices and provides technical consultancy, design and maintenance services to a range of public and voluntary sector clients throughout Cornwall.
Ocean Services is Investors in People accredited and registered with CHAS (Constructors Health and Safety System), CORGI, Gas Safe, NICEIC, HETAS, OFTEC and FENSA and so can offer the full range of property maintenance services.
The company operates a fleet of modern, fuel-efficient vehicles, all of which are fully equipped to provide a one-stop service to the company’s clients.
Although it only commenced trading in 2004 the company has developed an enviable reputation for delivering high-performance and high-quality services. Recognition has come in the form of a Considerate Constructors Bronze Award in early 2006; it was a runner-up in the 2006 Devon and Cornwall Business Excellence Awards, won the National Home Improvement Council electrical safety Award in November 2007 and the CORGI Energy Efficiency Installer of the Year in September 2008.
The company’s Design Consultancy is also developing a reputation for high quality designs and delivery of sustainable homes for social landlords. It has also designed community buildings and light industrial units for voluntary groups and private clients. The company has been selected as a finalist in the 2009 Sustainable Housing Awards for its Cheviot Road scheme for Ocean Housing.
Ocean Services also owns the long-establish local building company, Gilbert & Goode Ltd which specialises in the building contracting market. The two companies have a combined turnover in excess of £20 million (2008/09) and all profits generated are recycled through the Group to provide much needed new housing, improved services for residents and to support the local economy.
The company is also a quarter share owner of Advantage South West (ASW) with three other housing associations: Devon and Cornwall HA, Yarlington Homes and North Devon Homes. ASW is a procurement vehicle tasked with developing an innovative timber framed product for the newbuild market which was awarded the Housing Corporations Gold Award in 2006. In 2008, ASW expanded to become a fully-fledged local Housing Procurement Consortium providing discounted prices for a wide range of building materials and components to upwards of 12 housing associations and local authorities with a combined stock of over 55,000 homes.
