Phil Smith, Ocean Services Managing Director said his company’s vehicles clock up almost 1 million miles in a year whilst carrying out maintenance work to over 8,000 homes throughout Cornwall: “That’s equivalent to four trips to the moon – so it is important that they are as fuel efficient as possible,” said Phil.
The increased fuel efficiency of the new fleet will save Ocean around £30,000 a year and will reduce CO2 emissions by over 100 tonnes. “The savings are good news for the environment and the company, and will help to keep us competitive. They are also good news for tenants, as the profits from both Ocean’s commercial companies are re-invested into affordable housing for local people.”
The new fleet will help maintain a quality service for clients and customers of Gilbert & Goode and Ocean Services. Both companies have been jointly short-listed for the Sustainable Housing Awards 2009 and Ocean Services was declared the Energy Efficiency Installer of the Year by CORGI in 2008. This follows a succession of awards including National Considerate Constructors Bronze Award winner in 2006 and runner up in the Cornwall and Devon Business Excellence Awards in the same year, and Winner of the National Home Improvement Council Electrical Safety Award in 2007.
The Group has invested almost £200 million into the local economy during the last ten years and provides good quality affordable homes to more than 4000 families in Cornwall.
Ocean Services is contracted to carry out the repair and maintenance work for Ocean and other social landlords, whilst Gilbert & Goode is one of the largest Cornish construction companies, delivering a range of contracts from major developments and refurbishment, to minor works and maintenance.
