Father Christmas welcomes local families to their new homes

Father Christmas made a special journey from Lapland today to welcome Ocean residents into their new homes at Praze an Beeble.

Santa at PrazeThe £ 1.4 million affordable housing development has been completed in time for local families to move in before Christmas.

Gemma is thrilled for her family: “This is the best present ever - to be in our new home with our two children a week before Christmas. My partner and I both work locally and Kevin’s family lives in the village, so this home is a dream come true.”

Ocean Housing Chief Executive, David Renwick, is pleased that Ocean has been able to sprinkle some festive magic in Praze an Beeble: “It really is the icing on the cake for us, when we are able to move families into their homes for Christmas. A new home is always very special, but at this time of the year it is so important for families to be together in secure, cosy and comfortable accommodation. ”

The homes are in the parish of St Crowan and local school pupils named the road after Saint Crewenna, who travelled from Ireland to Cornwall in the fifth century. The scheme was made possible through a partnership between Ocean Housing, the Homes & Communities Agency that provided £ 480,000 in social housing grant and Cornwall Council that contributed £ 100,000.

The development provides eight homes for affordable rent and four for shared ownership. All the homes benefit from high standards of insulation and renewable green heating systems, helping to reduce energy bills for the residents.
